Joy Martin, LGPC

Practicing Since: 2017

Joy begins therapy by building a strong relationship with her clients so that they will feel safe in a warm and caring environment where they may talk openly.  Starting with the here and now, Joy walks alongside her clients and they work together to pursue therapy goals. Whether clients are looking for an objective voice in their life or have deep pain they want to stop avoiding, Joy can help. She practices holistic, client-centered counseling and has a body-centered approach to therapy. She helps her clients become more self-aware by recognizing the connection between mind and body, paying attention to the cues they already have within that provide answers and promote healing. Sometimes therapy is like piecing a puzzle together or finding that one missing piece. Common themes are often: recognizing and overcoming limiting beliefs, removing obstacles in the way of client goals, taking personal responsibility, restoring relationship with self and others, and getting to the root of the problem.  Ultimately the goal is finding what will work for each client, since every person is unique.

Joy has worked with a variety of individuals of all ages in the roles of teacher, director of youth ministry, Young Life director, event planner, and counselor. She enjoys hiking, crafting, creating games and large-scale scavenger hunts, sharing memories with friends and family, and being wife and mother to her favorite people on earth. She is always doing the work of learning and growing herself and pulls from this experience, her education, and counseling to bring her best into counseling relationships.

Joy is licensed in the state of Maryland (#LGP9900) and is under the clinical supervision of Jessica Ives, LCPC (Maryland #LC2578).
