Joy Martin, LCPC

Practicing Since: 2017

Clients working with Joy can expect a warm, nurturing environment.  She speaks truth in love and walks alongside her clients in a personal and relatable way as they pursue their therapy goals.  Whether clients are looking for an objective voice in their life or have deep pain they want to stop avoiding, Joy can help.

With couples, Joy helps uncover destructive relationship patterns and establish new patterns that bring healing, communication, and mutual satisfaction.  With children, Joy provides both child-centered and directive play therapies working collaboratively with their parents and caregivers.  She provides education and support, inviting them to team up with their child to reach their goals.  Joy believes our spirits, minds and bodies were designed to cooperate in healing from difficult experiences.  She helps individuals become aware of this connection and invites them to give attention to somatic clues that provide information and aid in the therapeutic process.  In addition to talk therapy, Joy includes a variety of techniques such as breathwork, bilateral stimulation, progressive muscle relaxation, guided imagery, stillness, movement, mindfulness, and prayer.

Keeping in mind that every person comes from different backgrounds and experiences, Joy strives to discover how therapy can be most effective with each client.  Common themes Joy explores with her clients include healing attachment wounds, recognizing and overcoming limiting beliefs, removing obstacles in the way of client goals, taking personal responsibility, becoming assertive, restoring relationships with God, self and others, and getting to the root of the problem.

Joy has worked with a variety of individuals of all ages in the roles of teacher, director of youth ministry, Young Life director, event planner and counselor.  She enjoys hiking, crafting, creating games and large-scale scavenger hunts, and being wife and mother to her favorite people on Earth.  She is always doing the work of learning and growing herself and pulls from this experience and her education to bring her best into counseling relationships.

Joy is licensed in the state of Maryland (#LC13846).
