Jesenia’s goal is to enhance each individual’s capabilities of self-discovery, growth, and change by providing a safe and supportive space. Jesenia believes that therapy can be an empowering experience to learn how to shape healthier attitudes, choices, beliefs, and habits. People react to stressor’s differently. Therefore, Jesenia believes it is important to respect their history and life experiences as an integral aspect of the therapeutic relationship by tailoring interventions and goals to meet the different needs.The major theories and techniques that influence Jesenia’s therapeutic approach are: cognitive-behavioral therapy, trauma-focused therapy, and strengths-based therapy.
Jesenia has over ten years of experience working with individuals, adults, and children of different cultural backgrounds in diverse settings. She obtained a Bachelor Degree in Psychology from Marymount University and a Master’s of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has provided trainings on topics specific to domestic and sexual violence, human trafficking and stalking to both government and nonprofit organizations. In recent years, her training has focused on providing trauma-informed services, to enhance providers’ capacity to work more effectively with those impacted by various forms of trauma.
