Jami Hicks-Townes, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC

Practicing Since: 2011

Jami likes to create an atmosphere where patients feel safe and know that their information and what is discussed during sessions is completely confidential (unless there is an attempt to harm oneself or others). She specializes in medication management, but her goal is to assist patients with their mental health holistically using therapy first and then advance to medication management if there is a need. The most important thing for Jami is to listen so as a team you can ensure your success. Jami specializes in adolescents and adults that are dealing with anxiety, depression, ADHD, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, and Personality Disorders but able to treat all disorders.

Jami believes that mental health treatment starts with a team approach that includes the patient, but also treating the patient as a whole. Jami believes that paying attention to detail is important and ensuring the patient that she is there for them.

Jamie is trained in trauma-informed care. She received her first bachelor’s degree from Morgan State University majoring in Biology. She attained a bachelor’s in Nursing from Coppin State University. From there, she received a master’s degree in Adult and Geriatric Acute Care and then a second master’s in Psychiatric and Mental Health from the University of Cincinnati. Jami is a Board-certified psychiatric and mental health Nurse Practitioner. Jami is presenting working towards completing her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) in which she is focusing on the improvement of quality care for psychiatric and mental health patients.

Jami is married and hopes to start a family, but in the meantime enjoys her cute 10-month old dog baby, Hennie. In her spare time, she likes to travel, read, work, swim, and hang out with her loved ones as much as possible. The recent pandemic has also sparked other interests such as watching movies, knitting, and completing difficult puzzles.
