Catherine “Cathy” Kim, Supervisee in Clinical Social Work

Practicing Since: 2018

Cathy strives to create a safe, trusting, and non-judgmental environment. She incorporates a mixture of cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectal behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness, and interpersonal psychotherapy. She has a person-centered, strengths-based, and goal-oriented approach.

Cathy feels the relationship between the client and counselor is one of the most important factors in the therapeutic process. She believes her role is not to be an expert but to be an individual who will support and work collaboratively with her clients. Cathy believes every individual is resilient and capable of achieving their goals.

Cathy received her master’s in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University. In her spare time, she enjoys playing volleyball, taking boxing exercise classes, and going hiking.

Cathy is licensed in the state of Virginia (#0906011617), and is under the clinical supervision of Claudia McDowell, LCSW (Virginia License #0904005916).
