Geriatric Assessment and Consultation Services
Memory loss may be caused by a variety of medical and psychological conditions. Dr. MacDougall specializes in evaluating the kinds of memory and thinking problems that seniors find most troubling, some of which can be effectively treated. Identifying the nature and severity of your memory and other cognitive problems is the first step toward creating a treatment plan. This is the time when the memory and cognitive assessment services of Dr. MacDougall may be most helpful.
Dr. Elizabeth MacDougall is a Christian licensed psychologist dedicated to providing compassionate services to senior adults and their families. The geriatric assessment and consultation services normally consist of the following phases:
Phase I:
- Initial interview with patient and family members to gain an understanding of the presenting issues.
- Neuropsychological testing is administered to measure cognitive functioning level.
- Testing is scored and report is written summarizing results.
Phase II:
- Psychologist meets with family and patient to discuss results and give feedback (typically done in 1-2 sessions). Results are also communicated to their Primary Care Physician if desired.
Phase III:
- Psychologist meets with family and patient for one or more sessions for the purpose of follow up planning, problem solving, etc. This is based on the information obtained via the testing.
Medicare covers all three phases and sometimes a secondary insurance covers applicable co-pays. Patients are only responsible for co-payments and any charges not covered by insurance.
