Nicole Belfiore, MA, LPC

Nicole began her career in counseling 25 years ago after she earned her BA in psychology from Dickinson College. She interned at Philhaven in 1986 and saw first hand how powerfully healing the arts can be for people living with emotional pain. From there she felt called to help people express themselves creatively and went on to complete a Masters Degree in Art Therapy at George Washington University.

Since then, most of her counseling experience has been with people who are dealing with acute symptoms of depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, life’s situational crises, as well as addictions issues.   Although Nicole still loves to offer the beneficial use of expressive arts and writing to her clients at their choosing, she consistently employs the traditional method of counseling, that is, talking.  Her favorite approaches are client-centered therapy, rational-emotive therapy, cognitive-behavioral, and solution-focused therapy.  In 2004, Nicole got her state licensure as a professional counselor after passing her national board exam for art therapy certification.

Her core belief is that humans are ultimately meant to spend life delighting in God and His creation, which includes themselves. In counseling, a person may be helped to discover the barriers that keep them from having a reasonably fulfilling life. Then time in counseling can be used to really focus God’s love and truth in areas of life that need to be changed.

Although Nicole is a native of Lancaster County, she has traveled extensively and has lived in urban settings away from Lancaster, and so enjoys the uniqueness of persons from all walks of life. Nicole enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and pets. For recreation, she likes gardening, cooking, eating, reading, going to flea markets, and walking in natural settings.
