Katherine Moore is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She received her Master’s Degree in Counseling from Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She works with children, 10 years or older, adolescents, and adults using cognitive-behavioral therapy.
She works closely with parents while counseling with children and teens to formulate goals and strategies that address each child or adolescent’s needs and parental concerns. Teen work focuses on building effective coping skills, improving problem-solving and decision-making as well as helping the child align healthy values with behaviors.
Katherine works with parents to build parenting skills, reinforce strengths for respectful relationship-building within whatever family structure is present. Her work with hundreds of children in various settings includes many years as an all-level public school art teacher, an elementary and middle school counselor, alternative high school counselor, substance abuse case manager for juvenile offenders, parenting classes and teen pregnancy counseling for girls and their parents.
Couples counseling begins with identifying goals and desired outcomes from each spouse in a neutral, sensitively-paced format. Strategies include communication skills and effective communication of needs training to form a baseline for building the desired relationship.
Katherine works with individuals for anxiety, depression, relationship, life transitions, and sexual identity issues as well as and anger management issues.
Although she relies on God to guide the sessions and trusts that He wants us all to grow in relationship with Him and awareness of His plan for our lives, she respects the client’s choice for the amount of spiritual work in the counseling process. Katherine has been married for over 30 years and she and her husband raised 3 children. They have participated in varied church ministries mentoring young couples, leading bible studies, small groups and Sunday school for children and adults. Katherine has been a speaker at women’s retreats, curriculum writer and director for Vacation Bible Schools.
