Erik L. Sundquist
Erik Sundquist is the founder and director of Safe Harbor Christian Counseling. He is a visionary who is always exploring and pursuing how to maximize the possibilities that exist in any given situation. Erik consistently receives feedback from clients who appreciate his ability to get to the heart of the matter and bring resolution to delicate issues. He brings insight and a sensitivity of core issues related to individual, family, and couples work alike. His greatest satisfaction comes from being with clients as they make decisions to trust God with their deepest hurts, fears, dreams, and hopes.
Erik combines a warm, engaging relational style of counseling with the ability to challenge clients regarding issues of the heart. One of Erik's hallmarks is his ability to encourage, motivate, and believe in each person that he comes in contact with. By focusing on the strengths of clients and the presence of God in their lives, Erik witnesses deep and lasting change in clients. He has an uncanny ability to know what it is that each client needs in order to reach their God-given potential.
Erik holds a Master's Degree in social work (MSW) from Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and is licensed in the state of Maryland (LCSW-C). For the past 23 years he has been involved in planting a church and has held various full time staff and lay leadership roles in local churches. He was the youth pastor of an inner city church for three years and has led small groups in churches in various capacities.
Erik's role at Safe Harbor currently involves providing therapy for couples, individuals, and families as well as providing supervision for other therapists on staff. Additionally, he serves as a consultant for several pastors in the areas of discipleship, leadership and mental health issues.
Erik has been married to his college sweetheart, Marni, since 1989. He lives in Forest Hill, Maryland, with Marni and their two children, Tyler and Megan, whom he enjoys coaching in soccer.
