Anna Kim
In the midst of the messiness and complexities of life, Anna Kim believes that there are two constant desires in all of us. The first desire is to connect with significant others. This is satisfied when one recognizes similarities between self and others. The second desire is to be autonomous. This is satisfied when an individual recognizes and embraces differences in his/herself from others. Although the two desires can be in conflict, the two desires fluidly interact to create and sustain relationships.
"I recognized the two desires in me through my multicultural life experiences. I am a Korean American. I was born in Korea and have lived in Barbados, Jamaica, Japan, Indonesia, and the US. Living in different countries, my physical and cultural differences from others was evident to me. At the same time, as a child of God, I was able to connect with other believers of Jesus Christ in each country that I lived."
"I grew up listening to my father's storytelling. This drew me to the parables of Jesus. In listening to Jesus' parables, I have gained knowledge about the power of relationships. Through relationship with Jesus Christ we are made children of God - 'little less than angels'. The consequences of broken relationships are alienation, oppression and physical, emotional, and spiritual death."
Anna received a Master's Degree in Biblical Studies from Palmers Seminary (formerly Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary), a post graduate certificate in Family and Couples Therapy from Drexel University and is currently pursuing her PhD. Her areas of interest are women from tradition bound cultures and couple relationships.
As a family and couples therapist, she is drawn to Transgenerational and Narrative models of therapy. In order to provide the best service to my clients, she receives constant supervision from a licensed family and couples therapist.
Anna has been in spiritual direction for the past ten years in order to intentionally bring herself before Jesus Christ daily. She is married to Richard and has two step sons, Michael and Eugene.
