Amy Baker graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1997 with a master's degree in Counseling, and is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.
For the past ten years, Amy has been counseling mostly women at Moody Bible Institute (MBI)—an Evangelical Christian college located in downtown Chicago—on issues such as eating disorders; depression; grief; self-mutilation; spiritual difficulties; sexuality issues, including abuse, abortion, and gender issues; and transitional issues, such as post-partum depression and infertility. She has also been involved with meeting with couples for pre-marital counseling and early marital counseling.
Additionally, Amy started an undergraduate women's ministry on campus called "The Well". Through this ministry, small groups were formed, retreats were attended, and workshops were given for students on topics such as "women and depression", abortion, women's sexuality, grief, singleness, stress, and relationships between men and women.
Amy taught a few semesters at MBI's undergraduate program in their Women's Ministry major. After teaching classes such as "Discipling and Mentoring Women" and "Ministering to Women with Special Needs", Amy began facilitating Mentoring groups within churches and led various workshops on topics including infertility, counseling on the mission field, preparing for marriage, Eating Disorders, and depression.
Being passionate about how women connect their sexuality to their spirituality, Amy sees a great need for the church to help facilitate this process. This is only one issue among many, which she believes the church can play a vital role in providing direction and a safe place to deal with the turmoil life brings.
